GeoMapsQuiz is built on open data. Thank you to everyone who makes it.
Boundaries
- District and tehsil boundaries of Pakistan: the pkmapr R package, built on geoBoundaries (William & Mary geoLab), licensed CC BY 4.0. Districts created since 2022 were assembled from their tehsils.
- Country outline, rivers, lakes, mountain areas and shaded relief: Natural Earth, public domain. The outline follows Natural Earth's Pakistan point of view.
Places
- City locations: GeoNames, licensed CC BY 4.0, checked and corrected by hand.
- Peaks, passes, glaciers, valleys, dams, parks, coast and landmarks: positions and facts compiled by GeoMapsQuiz from public reference sources.
Figures
- Population and area: Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, 7th Population and Housing Census 2023. Each place card shows the census year its figure comes from.
- Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir: 2011 Census of India, the most recent count.
How the map is drawn
The Pakistan maps follow Pakistan's official political map: Jammu & Kashmir is shown in full as disputed territory, with its final status to be decided in line with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, and Junagadh & Manavadar are marked. Boundaries are simplified for play and are not authoritative for any legal or survey purpose.
